This year we wanted to focus on the shortage of personnel that, year after year, is eroding the possibility of growth of our companies and jeopardizing the sustainability of the pace and excellence of our services, especially in the high season.
There is a shortage of 7,500 drivers and we have been recording, for too long, the dangerous lack of generational turnover of drivers who, to date, have an average age of over 55. In our sector there are more and more vacancies and fewer and fewer people employed.
We have sensitized institutions and entities, unions and Parliament on the need to identify specific professionalizing paths.
Today it is time to act and the conference entitled: "Professionalism, free time and emoluments: the evolution of the figure of Bus Driver into that of ‘’Bus Manager ‘’ sets ambitious goals along 3 main lines:
- Professionalism: it is essential to work on training new drivers through real Bus Academies, with recognition of the figure of the Bus Manager. To do this, the efforts made to extend the maximum driving age with a D license even beyond 68 years, similar to what happens in almost all European countries, remains constant. Incentives to purchase licenses and lowering the age at which they can be obtained also remain essential.
- Free time: those who choose this profession must be put in a position to enjoy adequate and sufficient free time to enjoy the affection of their families and cultivate their personal interests.
- Emoluments: it is essential to arrive at the creation of a CNNL that is specific and truly rewarding, and to increase the paychecks of traveling personnel in a way that values the sacrifices that accompany this profession. There are two paths to be taken to achieve this goal: commitment on the part of the companies in the category and a specific tax regime for traveling personnel on the part of the state on a par with other operators in the Italian tourism sector.
